Mehron Make-Up provided The Cosplay Journal with a set of their new Pastel Creamblend Sticks, and we couldn’t wait to give them a try!

Every cosplayer knows the horror of body and face paints at conventions and on photoshoots. Getting it to set, making sure it doesn’t rub off on your costume or anyone else’s, cracking, smudging, sweating off and then trying to get it all off afterwards, it can be a real struggle, but it doesn’t have to be like that! As someone who has always used water-based body paints, our editor ‘Olly was excited to get their hands on these cream based products and turn their hand to something new.

The Mehron Creamblend sticks come as a set of six; yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and green, and we also got to try an added white powder and fixing spray. With so many colours to try, we had to use as many as possible, so had a go at creating The Collector from The Owl House.

On first try the sticks feel more like putting on a foundation and can be treated the same way, blending out easily with either a foundation brush or a make-up sponge. The creaminess of the products really lends itself to building up the colours in various ways, including contouring and adding texture. When it comes to the pigmentation in the sticks, you barely need more than one layer on but building up adds amazing tone. We found the putting a matte primer under the Creamblend sticks really helped create a good, sturdy base, helping add to the product itself.

The shape of the products, a twist up stick, makes it easy to apply and shape the colours on the face well too. This was perfect for the sun and moon style look we were going for, but also for shaping any contour or high-light that you would want to apply. It’s a small thing but the way that they feel in the hand is super luxurious as well as making them a “user-friendly” product for people of any skill level.

The white powder that came with the Creamblend sticks definitely did the job with holding the product in place but for us it deadened the colours of the paints to much so switched to a translucent one which we personally preferred but can definitely see that the white would create a very, distinctly pastel shade with the Creamblend. The powder puffs were a plus, and the colour didn’t shift at all when building up the powder with the puff.

The final touch with the light-weight finishing spray and this body make-up wasn’t going anywhere.

For the first time using a cream make-up, these products were a dream and delivered on the promise of a great looking cosplay or stage make-up. We will definitely be using them again, and maybe this will convince ‘Olly to start making their Collector cosplay!
