Being A Cosplayer - The Comic Book on What it’s Like to be a Cosplayer.

‘Being A Cosplayer’ by Katherine Hemmings is a short diary comic book all about what it’s like to be a cosplayer. The stories are 4-6 panels and range from being recognised as the wrong character, someone taking a photo of your cosplay while you're eating, to staying up till 3am to make TikTok videos of your cosplay... if you are a cosplayer this book will have something you relate to hard.

The stories all come from 7 years of cosplaying experience from Katherine herself; from both UK comic conventions and the US. From the tiny independent comic convention to the daddy SDCC.

Katherine has been drawing comics for just over 2 years making her first break when she was accepted onto a comic course led by industry professional John McCrea. On the course, she learnt about putting a comic together and even worked on an anthology which was then successfully funded through Kickstarter.

In 2019 Katherine put her first solo book onto Kickstarter ‘Being Ginger’ which is all about what it’s like to be ginger. After only 5 days the book was successfully funded and 1000k copies have now been sold. This helped greatly in creating a template for the ‘Being A Cosplayer’ book.

When asked why cosplay as the next book Katherine said ‘It just felt natural for my next book to be about cosplay. Cosplay is such a huge part of my life and I get asked a lot of questions about it because I don’t shy away from hiding that part of my life. When talking to my comic con/cosplay peers I found a lot of the strange experiences I have had have happened to them too and we all would have a good laugh about it. It just clicked in my head that this strange and wonderful world would make an excellent diary comic book and gift for any cosplayer’
